I just finished volume 5, so here I am.
I’ve got a lot to say on this book. It’s very meticulously written. It is very easy to tell how much effort and thought the author put into the book, especially Zhang Jiao’s arc. I also enjoyed the detailed character development and relation change between the main protagonist and the characters around him.
Since this book is about the era of the three kingdoms, the world building and atmospheric setup are already set from the beginning. I believe many readers, myself included, first read because they wanted to see how the main character can adapt and thrive in this world, along with the changes that may happen due to the gender bend of important figures.
Let me assure anyone who might be on the fence about starting: The author clearly is very knowledgeable of the era and has his own theories. These traits are shown clearly through dialogue between the characters and the narration in between. I am not someone that usually enjoy books about history, but this one really gotta me interested. Scenes are sometimes very realistic, and other times comedic. Although I feel like the balance of the two can be improved, I think this is a pretty fantastic book. So, if you are still reading, you should go ahead and start reading :)
Since I’m giving an honest review, I also should talk about why I’m giving the book a 9 star instead of 10. I don’t know about everyone else, but I PERSONALLY find the gender change too frequent and unnecessary. I understand this is one of the unique areas that the book offers, but when it becomes excessive, I find myself less excited when a character turns out to be female. I also find the lack of male characters very weird. It just feels like the main character is changing the world with his harem, which really feels out of place with the setting of the book. The author does a good job easing the awkwardness, but it becomes noticeable the more you read.
Overall, I’m going to give this book a 9/10. Very good read so far, would recommend.

[em:sfgirl:004]

You should see the "harem" label on the cover page of this book.
